Sandra Rauch
Born in Berlin in 1967, Sandra Rauch is a versatile artist who merges painting, photography, typography, and digital media to create vibrant, dynamic works that capture the pulse of urban life. Her artistic journey began with studies in Communication Design at KHB Berlin (1991–1995), followed by her transfer to the HFBK Dresden, where she specialized in Painting and Graphics under the mentorship of Prof. Kerbach. After earning her diploma in 1998, she continued her development as a master student, graduating in 2000. Between 2000 and 2007, she worked as an assistant to Prof. Kerbach, solidifying her skills and expanding her artistic vision.
Inspired by metropolises such as New York and Hong Kong, Rauch is known for her striking use of bright, expressive colors and her mastery of space and perspective. Her works blend painting with the visual language of photography, print, and film, creating a multi-layered experience. In particular, her fascination with urban environments is evident in her visual experiments with neon signs, advertising typography, and architectural facades.
“Her art transforms the chaos of cityscapes into highly structured, colorful compositions that both reflect and reimagine the energy of modern cities”.
Rauch's unique approach often includes the use of acrylic glass instead of traditional canvas, layering imagery on both sides to achieve depth and complexity. Her ability to combine digital photography with mechanical lighting techniques creates an immersive media experience. As seen in her explorations of Times Square, Rauch's work transcends traditional artistic boundaries, drawing on the worlds of painting, film, and digital technology to offer a fresh perspective on the urban experience.
Her exhibitions span the globe, with notable shows in Berlin, Zurich, Paris, San Francisco, and Hong Kong, as well as international art fairs such as VOLTA Basel and the Berlin Art Salon. In each city, she researches and photographs her surroundings, reworking her findings into vibrant compositions that merge reality with imagination.
“Sandra Rauch's work is a striking commentary on the modern urban environment, engaging viewers with its energy, color, and depth. She continues to live and work as a freelance artist in Berlin”.
